December 7, 2023: A Simple Climb

 But I know one thing

good things are coming my way

This week was a little weird, a little sad, but overall ok.

Sad stuff first, my companion has been sick for the past 6 days, so Saturday through Monday we stayed in, hoping he would get better. He did, kinda, but its still pretty rough. He's just well enough to go outside, but its pretty inconvenient.

Also, we no longer have any friends with a baptismal date. two of them are struggling with a lot of general life issues, so its difficult to work with their schedules and make plans accordingly, so we kind of have to just wait on them, for when they're ready. The other one just dropped us completely, which was a heavy blow because he was an incredibly cool and promising guy. At the end of the day though, our goal isn't to baptize people, it's to give as many people as possible the choice to be baptized and follow Jesus Christ. We were able to give him that choice, so my job is done. Unfortunately he simply chose otherwise. Missionary work is a very interesting concept when its put into a perspective like that.

Other than that though the week was decent! We baked banana bread, and are hoping to give it out to people. We gave some to Schwester Ebbert who lives beneath us, and we plan on giving more to Eick and Sophie, and a family in our ward. We kept one piece for ourselves, and it tastes wondrous.

We found a new friend named Elsa through a referral from FindeChristus, a website that our mission runs to invite people to Christ. We knocked on her door, and asked if she wanted to build a snowman. There wasn't any snow so we gave her a Book of Mormon instead, which sufficed.

Speaking of snow, it snowed a bit this week! unfortunately it all melted the day after, but it was super cool. Its very weird, because of the humidity theres always just a constant slight snow when its below freezing, but every once in a while it'll pick up.

we went on an exchange with the Mönchengladbach Elders, and they had a super cool Christmas Market there! they had decorated the entire place, and sectioned off a small part of the city for it. Elder Dodge and I bought some extremely long sausages, and admired the christmasy feeling. Germany is pretty good at that. I should hopefully have some pictures below.

We also had interviews on Friday which was great as always. Our mission president and his wife are incredible people, if I could I'd just talk to them for hours.

In other news, my companion and I made a video for our zone about the law of consecration. The file is too big to fit in an email, but just know that it's cool and a reference to the video game Dark Souls.

I would just like to bear my testimony on The Book of Mormon. There have been so many times so far on my mission where the weight just piles up, and I feel bogged down by the world, by home, or by contention, and I know that wherever I go in life that will not change. But what I have noticed is how much this book, combined with prayer helps me feel whole. If the book was not true, I would've gone home a long time ago. If I didn't truly believe in this message, and it's ability to bless every soul, I would not be here. The fact that there are now two testaments of Jesus Christ on the earth is incredible, and it is something I wish never to give up or deny.

Thats about all that happened this week! At least, that's all that's new.

 Much love,
 bis nächste woche!

Elder Tage Rex
