February 1, 2024: For your miracles outnumber

All your stars out in the sky

Another insane week!

On Friday I told our bishop that I was getting transferred, and his response was "great! Now you can give a talk on Sunday!", so thanks bishop.

That same day, we got kidnapped by the resident Polish Oma in our ward. She had planned on people picking us up, which meant she could keep us there for as long as she wanted. We were there for over 4 hours, which is a terrible waste of time, but we couldn't do anything! She made a super good fancy cake, a potato meat cake thing, and an insane soup. In one moment Elder Hill was taking his time eating a cucumber salad (neither of us like cucumbers) and she broke character and yelled "Why are the cucumbers not eaten up!!" except in German and in a thick Polish accent. It's a core memory between Elder Hill and I now.
Elder Hill convinced me to ask Schwester Ebbert if we could have one more meal together before I leave, and so I did. And then I realized that we had just invited ourselves over to her house for food, and felt terrible for being so impolite. I was dreading it the whole week, but we went over on Tuesday and we cooked frikadellen together, and everything was fine! She was glad to spend dinner together.

On Sunday, I gave my talk. I shared the story about losing the keys on my first transfer, and how rough the next few weeks were for me.I shared my testimony on just how much prayer helped me during that time, and even though the experience was rough, that I learned just how much God was looking out for me through it all. I guess it went over well, because we ended that Sunday with 5 meal appointments for just the next two days! That is a record broken, at least for Wesel. I've never heard of a German area getting that many before.

On Monday for breakfast we showed Felix, a young adult in our ward how to make breakfast burritos. He's such a funny man. A little clueless sometimes, but his heart is pure. After that, our bishop convinced us that it was worth our time to go play tennis (!!!) with him and eat lunch with him and his wife afterwards! I can't believe I got to play again, he apologized to me afterwards for not playing with me the past 3 transfers, because he really likes it. We ate some heavenly parmesan chicken with them. We then went and taught Pasquale with the Piotrowski family, and ate with them again. That's all 3 meals covered in one day!

On Tuesday we went to the Breuer's house, Franz and Gertrude. I never knew that Gertrude was a real name! They were wonderful, and fed us lunch. Franz reminds me of a Netherlandish version of my Grandpa Krueger, he's amazing. He loves family history too, and had a lot to say about the bad Dutch translations on the website. We then had our last meal appointment in Wesel, with Schwester Ebbert like I said.

Wednesday was transfer day!! I finished packing up , and managed to fit everything in just two suitcases. It's crazy how that's literally all I own anymore, just the two suitcases. It was supposed to be a one connection 4 hour train ride to Kaiserslautern, but it turned into about 6 hours, because my first train fell out and I had to take 3 connections. I was alone the whole time, which was really weird having to make decisions alone. There was a very crazy man on the last train which scared me a lot, but other than that the ride was beautiful! This whole area is filled with castles and rolling hills and cliffs. I counted dozens of large castles on the way down, but it was hard to get pictures from the train.

I finally got to the city, and wow it's just wayyy prettier than Wesel. I remembered why Germany is cool! We have a pretty nice apartment here too, even if we don't live with an Oma anymore. Elder Perez is super cool too! We have a lot of things in common, and I think it'll be a really fun transfer.

I'm definitely forgetting a lot, but things are going well, and that is what is most important!

much love,
Elder Tage Rex
