February 8, 2024: Sometimes the sunlight comes streaming through the holes
This week wasn't super eventful, but it was a good week!
We had Drat on Friday last week, and it just so turns out that our district has a tradition to wear Crocs at every Drat! They all have PizzaHut Crocs, and I got to pull out my Minecraft Crocs. They seemed pleased.
We had an activity with a member who wanted to play MarioKart with us, and we expected more people to be there so we asked President Cropper if we had permission, and he actually let us play MarioKart! Unfortunately nobody actually showed up so it was just kind of us and the one member, but it was fun!
We took part in a lesson with the sisters here, and basically their friend is a huge star wars guy, and so we invited a member who was also a huge star wars guy, and they taught the Plan of Salvation using an analogy of the life of Anakin Skywalker. Glorious.
We had church on Sunday and I got to meet the German branch here! It's almost bigger than Wesel, but for some reason it's a branch here and a ward there. I had to introduce myself and share my testimony. For the rest of the day Elder Perez and I made Samoan bread, because he's Samoan and likes Samoan things. We took it to a youth devotional we were invited to, which was fun! Also I tracked down a member who plays tennis, so we might set up a time to play next week (fingers crossed).
We've been trying to get some good contacting in, because we need more friends. Apparently it was a bit complicated last transfer, and we lost a lot of people and they weren't able to do much contacting. It can be pretty tough to find here, despite the decent population, but we're working on it!
I found out there is also a Dominoes right next to our house, and a Pizza Hut as well. Theres also a massive supermarket that we live right across from, like the largest German grocery store ever. Its called Kaufland.
We also walked past a crazy preacher dude on the street, and when he saw us he yelled (In German) "Mormons! Come here! Joseph Smith! Criminals! Criminals!", so that was funny. We just kept walking. Apparently he is out there all the time and says the same thing every time he sees us.
I've also been helping my companion learn grammar, because somehow he's been getting along in one of the most grammar heavy languages in the world, without learning an ounce of grammar! It's kind of impressive, but it can be kinda tough for him.
We also went to a cool meeting yesterday with some of the Americans who live here, and basically we invited two pastors to our church and some of their youth and we heard them preach and tell us their stories and connect over Jesus Christ. It's always super cool to connect with people of other faiths, and build common ground. The Pastors were men of God and have given so much of their life to the spreading of the word, and I have a lot of respect for that!
Thats about all!
Much love,
Elder Tage Rex
