August 8, 2024: You can learn to levitate with just a little help
Another week accomplished
Friday was a crazy day. It was the day for our District council, and we were going to drive over an hour there. Unfortunately, as we were heading our I realized I didn't have the car keys! (I think my weakness is keys). We couldn't find them in the apartment so we decided they could only be in the car. We said a prayer and went down to the car, which we had parked and not touched for 2 whole days. Well, we found the keys, while also finding another problem. They were still in the ignition. Before anybody face-palms, I just want to say that it was a miracle that the car and its keys and everything in it were still there! The Lord really does have our back when we need it. OK, now you can face-palm. The battery was completely dead after running over 2 nights, so we called the driving coordinator in the mission and they said to call a car service shop (your average joe doesn't usually have jumper cables around here), Unfortunately), so we called the Hyundai services, who referred us to another guy, who referred us to another guy, who sent a guy to come jump our car. Its been over 2 hours at this point, but the guy finally comes, and in less than 30 seconds jumps our car and drives away. I was impressed with his speed and grace in which he jumped the car. So we finally got to drive to district council, and it was great! Unfortunately after that we had a big district finding activity that we were going to do, but because we were so late it didn't end up taking place. We didn't have any other plans so we decided to do some dooring for the sisters in that town, and then we headed home and that was basically the day. Phew. I'm just happy the car wasn't stolen!
On Sunday we had church, and the branch President's family was gone (they make up about half of the attendance), so we started sacrament meeting with a total of 4 members there.... Luckily after about 15 minutes some more came in so we were up to 8 or 9. One of the members really wanted to sing a Christmas Hymn for the opening song, and with only 4 members present, sometimes ideas like that end up making it through
we ended up singing it. We did actually have a wonderful Sunday school though on Alma 31-32.

Our friend named Adisa has been doing super well! He is from Nigeria and says he has a masters in religious or scripture studies or something. He loves Jesus Christ and it's really cool to see. He's started reading in the Book of Mormon, and just after that he read John 21:25 which says "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen." Which was a testimony to him that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. Super cool!!
We met with him on Tuesday, and right after that the member we were with told us to follow her and she would take us to a good place to do missionary work. She took us about 20 minutes to her beautiful town on a river valley, and then basically just had tea time with us, it was awesome. We did a little service for her as well.
We've had a Zone focus on service this week, and my district has been in charge of making challenges and "creating hype" as we call it. I've been reflecting on how my outlook on service has changed over the course of my mission. It's incredible because we can go out and say we are disciples of Jesus Christ, and even preach to the people about it, but service is able to show people that we practice what we preach. Jesus Christ said "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his li fe for my sake shall find it." The greatest way we can find our purpose in life is by losing our life in the service of others. I think it's interesting how even in Jesus' case, he literally lost his life in the service of others, for the sake of his father's will, which is to bring us all home again. Even in this case, though, he was literally able to find his life through his resurrection on the third day, just as we all will eventually. I encourage you all find a way to serve somebody else this week!
Today we've got a Zone P-Day! We got special permission to drive because its 3 hours away with the train (Normally you can't drive for P-Day activities). We played some intense pickleball, and had some good fun with all the other missionaries.
I hope you all have great week!
