November 30, 2023: It was a long and dark December

Image
From the rooftops I remember   This week went by crazy fast! they just get faster and faster it seems. It's good though :)  First things first, we actually got 3 baptismal dates last week, we got another one about 30 minutes after writing my email haha. Its amazing to see the work of the Lord go forth. The dates will probably get pushed into January though, because we don't want to rush it. And December is just a busy time.  It's been getting super cold, even 5 layers is sometimes not enough when we're riding our bikes. The temperature just hovers around 28-34 consistently right now, and probably only going to get colder. The sun also sets at about 4pm, so a lot of time is spent in the dark. We had a little miracle happen this week, on Friday we went to Kleve, a city about 1.5 hours away because we can only reach it through busses from Wesel. We were walking to someone's house to deliver a Book of Mormon, and I lost my phone on the way. We looked for about 30 minu...

November 23, 2023: Look at the stars

Look how they shine for you Hallo zusammen!  This week was a great week! It went by super fast though, so hopefully I can remember what I want to say in this. We were door knocking after last pday, and i felt like we should cross the street, so we did, and the first building we knocked on was an arabic family of 4 who were willing to hear from us! That's the only success I've seen with door finding so far, it's not usually the most effective finding method, but the Lord prepares people.  We've been teaching one of our new friends Rizgar, who was reffered to us by the elders in Köln, and he's awesome! He speaks English with us, but his native tongue is Arabic.  We went bowling with the YSAs in our ward on Friday night! It was crazy, not a missionary environment at all, at least not what I've gotten used to for the last few months. I got some nice cardboard pizza, and listened to some normal people music. It had been a while since I heard Pitbull. We also listen...

Reminder: the term "Each other" is two seperate words. It is not "eachother" This week was a good week, aside from a couple things. Last p-day we had 2 appointments set up in the evening, both of which canceled on us, so we went finding downtown. It started to downpour on us, and hardly anyone was outside (because we were the only ones crazy enough to be), so we decided it was best to turn home. We had a great lesson with Neda, one of our good friends who we feel has been progressing on Friday. We went to a store for lunch after our lesson though, and she was there too so we played some hide and seek to avoid her noticing us  . We then visited a family about an hour away who were incredibly nice. We promised them cookies last week, and we were all a little disappointed when we presented none. I think they still appreciated us though...? We talked with one of our friends Tobias on saturday, and realised there's a lot more he doesn't understand yet that we t...

November 9, 2023: People talking without speaking

Trying to take what they can get I ask you, if you remember Prospekt how could I forget My entire world just got flipped upside down here it seems.  We had transfer day on Friday! I dropped off my father in duisburg in the morning, and met up with the elders there. We spent the day there, and then they dropped me off back at the train station there to wait for Elder Gibert. It was the first time I've been alone for a while, it was really weird but also really peaceful. His train was delayed twice, so he was already 45 minutes late, and then I got a call from him, and apparently the train just blew straight by duisburg and never stopped! They were in the city Oberhausen already, and they had to turn around the train to pick us up. And, they changed platforms last minute. It was really crazy but eventually we made it! Schwester Ebbert, the Oma below us, picked us up and drove us home.  Elder Gibert is awesome! He's got about 7 months left out, and I've seriously had so mu...

But here I lie Transfer week is upon us! We got the news on Tuesday morning, drumroll please... Elder Koch is going to be a Zone Leader in Offenbach, and I am staying in Wesel! I'm getting a new companion that I get to meet tomorrow evening, and I'm super hyped to meet him. He goes by the name of Elder Gibert, except pronounced like a classy Frenchman. I know next to nothing about him, so hopefully he's cool. He will also be our district leader, which means I get to do more exchanges this transfer which is always fun. Chances are that next time I'll get transferred to another city, so that'll be exciting to look forward to. Other crazy news- the church is opening 36 new missions around the world, including a new Hamburg Germany mission! This is significant because 2 zones (my zone-Düsseldorf and Dortmund) will get flipped over to the new mission, and they're changing some boundaries for the other nearby missions to accommodate. We will be acquiring the Stuttgar...
